THE DUNMORE COMMUNITY GARDEN PROJECT

Planning on planting some flowers this spring? Click Here to help with this project!

The Dunmore Community Garden Club is open to all members of the community that share this wonderful interest. Project planning and sharing tips occurs each Friday at 10am at the Community Center in one of the open rooms in the Senior Center area.

Members currently include two Master Gardeners who are available to help with any questions or problems you may have.

The Club recently planted Tulip Bulbs with children from the Headstart Program. The kids were so thrilled and just adorable to work with!

The Club is currently working with the Community Center Youth Program to get them (150 area school age kids) as well as the Headstart children involved in gardening. The plans are to start simple with Container Vegetables, Flowers and Herbs. Master Gardeners will be available to teach many lessons, including Worm Composting. Nutrition students from local Marywood University will help the children learn what foods are the best to grow and eat. Area chefs will teach how to best prepare these vegetables.

The Center will also be able to house a small Farm Market for the seniors, many of whom would not be able to purchase fresh produce any other way.

Many thanks to the Dunmore and Scranton Rotaries who obtained a grant to fund Earthboxes and a Fence. Thanks also to 1-800-GotJunk and Mr. Handyman for installing the fence.
